Anodizing
Anodizing improves corrosion resistance, increases surface hardness, and enhances wear resistance. This process serves both functional and cosmetic purposes. There are two main types of anodizing:
Type II Anodizing
Used to produce parts with a uniform, aesthetically pleasing surface. It provides good corrosion resistance and limited wear resistance, with a wide range of color dye options.
Typical coating thickness:
- Black: 12–18 μm
- Clear: 8–12 μm
- Color: 4–8 μm
Type III Anodizing (Hard Anodizing)
Provides excellent corrosion and wear resistance, making it suitable for functional applications. Color options are limited, typically clear or black.
Typical coating thickness: 30–125 μm
Printing & Etching
Custom text and logos can be printed on parts.
- Silk screening is suitable for larger surfaces and multi-color graphics
- Pad printing is ideal for curved surfaces
- Laser etching is used for precise and permanent marking on metals and certain plastics
Machined Finish
Machined parts show tool marks that follow the cutting path. A machined finish provides a smooth surface without polishing and requires minimal hand deburring. Parts can be finished and delivered quickly after machining.
Standard surface roughness values:
- Standard machined finish: Ra 3.2–1.6 μm
- Smooth machined finish: Ra 1.6–0.8 μm
- Super-finished surface: Ra 0.8–0.2 μm
Additional finishing increases production cost due to extra machining steps and tighter quality control.
